How to not do nothing

It always dissapointed me seeing people constantly do nothing with their time. I'm not saying that a little R&R isn't important, i'm simply saying that a lot of R&R can be dangerous. I also realize that there are people that may be limited in what they can do physically for various reasons. This is specifically written to show people how to manage their time and use it wisely.

These are some things you can do in your free time to grow you as well as bless others. Don't spend hours in front of a flat screen TV when there is a gorgeous day outside! You can relax and still be productive. Laziness is a real problem, here are some practical ways to avoid it:

1. Sharpen your Skills

Do you sing? Do you dance? Do you sketch? Do you box? Skills that aren't practiced, diminish over time. It is a very good idea to occasionally sharpen them. In your free time, think about your gifts, what havn't you done in a while? What can you improve on? After you've figured this out, then practice them. We were each given things to do well, but they must be kept up in order to perform them at the highest level.

2. Spend some time with Friends/Family

Maybe there is a friend or family member that you havn't seen in a while? Maybe there is a select few friends or family members that you chat with or hang around on a consistant basis. Whatever the case, I'm sure there are friends or family that would appreciate the time you spend with them. We're not here forever, so make the most of your time spent here while you can.

3. Read a good Book

By reading, we expand our knowledge. Read something that interests you. I believe reading can both entertain and educate us. When something really interests you, it's a good idea to take notes on it. This is a good strategy for remembering what you read. You can look at your notes as a quick reference so you never forget!

4. Excercise

This one should be a given, taking care of your body is very important. I'm not a fitness trainer or a health nut but I know that working out could benefit you as well as others. It can also pro long your life here. Doing any kind of physical activity is a lot smoother if your in shape. Eating well can also help you feel better. Excercising is definatly a good way to spend your free time.

5. Plan For Tommorow

We don't know what may happen tommorow, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't plan! Is there anything you are running low on in your home? Make a grocery list. Perhaps you have a rough day of work ahead, so you may need to plan to do things a little differently. Take full advantage of a day with an empty schedule and plan ahead for the next few. Things tend to flow a lot better when we have a game plan.

6. Learn A New Skill

Was there always something that you wanted to learn how to do but never did? Free time could be spent researching how to do this very thing. Maybe you have a friend or family member that knows how to do something exceptionally well. You could learn a new skill from them! This takes time and can stop you from being lazy. Learn the skill and practice to master it.

7. Find Someone To Help

Is there something you can help a friend or family member with? Ask them, maybe they could use a hand with a home project or perhaps you could offer to accompany them as they run an errand. Helping someone and recieving help is a great blessing. This is also a good way to break bordeom and also prevents laziness.

8. Travel

You can always find a place to travel to. Whether it's a familiar place or whether your looking to explore a new area. If your familiar with most of the areas in your hometown try travaling to a different state. There may be something unique that you will find that your hometown doesn't have! This is also a good way to meet new people and make new friends.

9. Study

There may be something important that you have to memorize or rehearse. Do you have a test that you have to prepare for? Studying isn't necessarily fun but we can't expect to pass an important test if we don't study for it, unless of course, you feel confident enough not to.

10. Write

As a writer, this is obviously my favorite thing to do. There is so much freedom here. You can journal about your life, you can write a poem. Jot down whatever is in your head, whatever your little heart desires!
